Hobby Airport is located 12 miles south of downtown and principally serves major U.S. cities. Taxi, shuttle bus, and local bus services are available to and from the downtown area.

Transportation To/From Houston Airports

Taxi Service:

Door-to-door taxi service is available from both airports to the Downtown area. Fares range from $18-$25 from Hobby Airport to $30-$50 from IAH (depending on traffic). Passengers can share to lessen cost. IAH is approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour away, depending upon traffic.

Express Shuttle Service:

Super Shuttle (713-523-8888; www.supershuttle.com) offers low one-way fares from IAH ($20-$24) and Hobby Airport ($14 -$18 for door to door service).  For details, visit the company website above.

METRO Bus Service:

METRO, the city bus service, has a new service called Airport Direct. For just $4.50 one way, Airport Direct takes you from George Bush Intercontinental Airport Terminal C to destinations throughout Downtown. Buses depart every 30 minutes between 5:45am and 8:15pm, and downtown stops include the Hyatt hotel, site of the IRMMW-THz 2011 conference.  Visit www.fly2houston.com for more information, or look here for a review of the service.

The bus from Hobby Airport, with current fare of $1.00, leaves from Curb zone 13, which is located just outside the doors from the baggage claim on the lower level.  Bus number 88 provides the most direct route to the conference hotel.

Schedule and route updates may be found by calling +1 713 635 4000, by visiting http://ridemetro.org, or by checking the Airport Information Desks upon arrival.

Please periodically check the IRMMW-THz2011 conference web site at https://irmmw-thz2011.org/ for transportation updates.

In general, IRMMW-THz conference organizers cannot intervene with US embassies or the US State Department on behalf of conference participants.  However, if you need a personal letter of invitation to attend the conference, please email us at  with this request.  In order to process this request, you will first need to complete the conference registration process.  We will also need the following information:

full name, email address, complete mailing address (including phone and fax numbers), passport number / country issued, date of birth

Your letter of invitation will be emailed to you as a pdf attachment, and also sent via postal mail.  Please be sure to submit this request well in advance to allow time for processing.

Recently, the US State Department has updated its visa policies to increase security for citizens and visitors.  It is likely that obtaining a visa will take longer than it has in the past, and you will find that new security measures have been put in place.  For details that may apply specifically to you, check with your nearest consulate or visit http://usembassy.state.gov.
